Resonance: that's what architectural photography is all about. Photographing a building, space, design, office or construction gives me the opportunity to understand how it resonates with its surroundings. Everything contributes to the resonance of a building; light, space, materials, design, finishing's, texture, construction, craftsmanship, thought, mood, time and sound.

Like a grand composition I first notice the bits that shout at me, demanding my attention.  Then I begin to notice the layers that really enrich and hold the design.  I love that moment when I'm sitting in a space and I discover something cheeky the designer has included to reward the quiet observer.

• Before a shoot I often visit the site at different times to study all its elements.  Only then can I truly understand it's resonance and the best way to capture it.
