I LOVE great design. it consumes me. Unfortunately it also consumes my bank balance! But I love it when something beautiful is also highly functional. That's why I'm supporting Brisbane Indesign in 2012.

So what on earth is Brisbane Indesign?

Well, it's all things design - up close & personal.

Basically it's a two day event (May 25 and 26) that aims to expose Brisbane's design loving population to as many local designers, artists, manufacturers and importers as possible.  Over two days you can hop on and off the free bus service and interact with great design. 

Some great collaborations will be happening over the two days with

• Specially designed creative installations
• Key professionals discussing what they do, how they do it and what inspires them
• Temporary 'pop up' venues to explore along with existing showrooms

Great design is nothing without interest, form and function.  A great example of this I recently came across was the Dellomano Cafe in Doggett Street, New Farm.  While you can't EAT the brownies in this photo if you rock up to the cafe they will certainly give you a few to try!

Dellomano are a fantastic example of great design in action. Recently moving into their new premises they teamed up with some great local artisans & craftsmen with the aim of creating an environment that mirrors their brownies; rich and interesting.  

For example; in their coffee bar they've sealed coffee beans in underneath the epoxy.  It always starts a conversation with the barista. And conversations lead to relationships, which is great for their business. 

Their specially designed banister is another great example - crafted by a Remo Vallance, a local artist it's unique and really compliments the space. 

This is the type of thing Brisbane Indesign is all about.  It's going to be crazy, busy, creative, exciting, and inspiring. That's why I'll be there, and why I won't be caught dead without my camera.
